Industrial Ethernet Switch, 5 x 10/100TX
10/100Mbps Fast Ethernet Switching Hubs, managed or unmanaged, Rackmount, VLAN, poe
Fast Ethernet Switches run at speeds up to 100Mbps (100 Mega Bits per second) and use Special Category 5 (Cat5) Cable mated to "RJ45" 8-position Modular connectors. Cat5e or Cat6 cable is higher spec'd cable, and may give superior performance. All new installation should use Cat5e or Cat6.
There are several types of Switching Hubs - unmanaged, managed and poe.
Unmanaged Switching just means that the switch is set up through firmware and there is no onboard configuration utility.
Managed Switching means their is an onboard configuration utility (usually accessed via web browser) which allows you to set transmission speed (10/100/1000Mbps) , operation mode (Full/Half duplex) , on each port, enable/disable ports, set VLAN groups, and trunk location.
L2 switching allows packets to be switched in the network based on their MAC (Media Access Control) address. When a packet arrives at the switch, the switch checks the packet's destination MAC address and, if known, sends the packet to the output port with that previously known MAC address.
POE is "power over ethernet", this allows the switch to support ethernet devices that are supplied power over their ethernet connection , eliminating the need for a power supply.
