Computer Music - How do I get started?
First you might need to re-educate your self to what some simple obvious terms mean in the new world of Computer Music. In the old world you had "instruments" and "recorders". Now the very definition of instruments and recorders is different.
Instruments:
•Normal instruments like Guitar, Bass, Drums and Vocals
•"Virtual" Computer based Software Instruments with programmable sound characteristics
•External MIDI based keyboards or other MIDI controllers which tell your Software which sounds to play
•Sound Loop Samples which have one or more instrument sampled sounds playing numerous bars of music, making putting together basic songs extremely quick and easy.
Recorders
Recording Software for PC's and Macs can record external "real" instruments via Mic inputs and Analog Audio inputs, Digital Audio, MIDI keyboards and virtual instruments as well as MIDI control information to control Effects, Mixing and all sorts of other stuff
