Datacomm Recessed Pro-Power Installation Kit, White

Use Datacomm's easy-to-install Recessed Pro-Power Installation Kit to install power and hide unwanted audio/video (A/V) cables in the wall behind your flat panel TV. This kit brings a clean, professional image to your at-home installation.

Since this kit does not connect to your home’s existing wiring, there is no contact with live electrical circuits. To install, connect the two Recessed Cable Plates using the supplied electrical wire. Plug the female end of the extension cord into the Recessed Cable Plate with Straight Blade Inlet and the male end into a surge protector or power conditioner. This connection protects your tv (and your investment) from power surges.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Recessed Pro-Power Installation Kit come with everything I will need for the installation?

The Recessed Pro-Power Installation Kit comes with all the installation parts you will need:

 • Recessed Cable Plate with Power
 • Recessed Cable Plate with Straight Blade Inlet
 • 6 Ft. Extension Cord
 • Two (2) Electrical Workboxes
 • 8 Ft. Electrical Wire
 • Wirenuts, screws and installation hardware

The only additional items that will be needed for the installation are common household tools: a screwdriver, sheetrock saw, and tape measure.

Note: Manual screwdrivers are much more suited to this type of installation than electric models.

Can I run the TV power cord or an extension cord through the recessed part of the plate?

No. The NEC (National Electrical Code) does not allow power cords to be run behind walls, ceilings, or floors. Power cords need ventilation to prevent overheating, which could cause a fire.

Installing the Recessed Pro-Power Kit correctly will effectively conceal both power cords and a/v cables. Follow the directions to ensure a safe and NEC approved installation.

Installation of the Recessed Pro-Power Kit eliminates the need to run a power cord through the wall.

What is the difference between having a regular electrical outlet behind my tv and installing the Recessed Pro-Power Kit?

Both the Recessed Pro-Power Kit and a regular electrical outlet will power your tv. However, by installing the Recessed Pro-Power Kit, the tv can be connected to an external surge protector or power conditioner. This connection protects your tv (and your investment) from power surges.

Do I need an electrician to install this kit, or can I do it myself?

Installing the Recessed Pro-Power Kit does not interfere with your home’s existing electrical wiring. The connections you are working with are on a dead circuit. The kit is safe and easy to install. Installation instructions are included.

A professional installation is recommended if you are not comfortable running wiring through walls or making connections from receptacle to wire.

Can I install the Recessed Cable Plates anywhere on the wall?

Just about. Make sure you install the Recessed Cable Plate with Power between two studs. Use a studfinder if you are unsure. Reference the included instruction sheet for installation guidelines.

Both the Recessed Cable Plate with Power and the Recessed Cable Plate with Straight Blade Inlet are designed to be mounted between two studs.

What if I need more than the included 8 feet of electrical wire?

Five feet or less is the average height of a wall mounted flat panel, so 8 feet of electrical wire should be more than enough for most applications.

However, if your project calls for more than the included 8 feet, you can pick up electrical wire (also known as “Romex”) at your local hardware or home improvement retailer.
