Windows ME 1394 support

Changing to the Microsoft Camcorder Driver:
First of all, you will not be able to see your driver for the camcorder unless it is connected and turned on, otherwise it will not show up.
Right clicking the "My computer" Icon on your desktop and selecting "properties" is the easiest way to get into "Device Manager".
You will then need to look under "Sound Video and game Controllers".You need to click the little "plus" sign (+) to see what's under the catagory. If ti has a "1394 DV Camcorder" in there, you are using the TI (Texas Instruments) driver. Depending on your 1394 card and camcorder, this could work better or worse than the Microsoft driver.

Turn off the camcorder and disconnect it. Go to your "C:\windows\inf" folder and find the file named "DVCam.inf". You probably want to back this up onto afloppy drive, since you're going to have to delete it. Delete the file!

Now go to your "C:\windows\System32\drivers" folder and find the file named "DVCam.sys". You probably want to back this one up onto the floppy drive as well, since you're going to have to delete it. Delete the file!
Shut down and turn off the computer.
Connect the camcorder, turn it on and start up the computer.

If the "New Hardware found" wizard starts, skip to the next step. Open up your device manager again. The camcorder should show up with the "exclamation point" (!) that tells you it is not working properly. Click "Properties" and click the "Update Driver" button.

On the next screen, select "Automatic search for a better driver".

Windows should find a driver to make it happy, sometimes you will need to put your Windows ME CD in your CDROM, for windows to load the driver.

This shows the DV camcorder driver properly installed, here listed as a "Sony DV camcorder".
