Removing The Texas Instruments
camcorder drivers in Windows 98/ME:

*** If you can attach and turn on the camcorder without the system freezing, it is often easier to change the drivers in "device manager" than it is to get Windows to properly locate the driver you want it to. Especially so for these Camcorders where often you don't even seem to be prompted for them.

To remove the TI drivers:

  1. With the camcorder power on, highlight the 1394 DV Camcorder in the Device Manager & click the REMOVE button.
  2. Power off your camcorder...
  3. Search your computer for dvcam.* (more specifically; DVCAM.INF, DVCAM.SYS, & DVCAM.PNF) This can be done using Windows Explorer by selecting "Tools" -> "Find" -> "Files or Folders".
  4. Delete these files
  5. Reboot your computer.
  6. Once Windows is rebooted, go to your device manager & turn your camcorder on. Make sure to locate and choose the correct driver when prompted. *This is often the tricky part.
Sometimes it's easier to change the driver for the device.
