For short HDMI cable lengths, especially with newer components there is usually no reason to agonize over cables, good quality cables from reliable sources will support up to 1080p. For longer cables quality is essential. Some earlier HDMI devices, especially Receivers, will also benefit from better cables. Deep color capability in HDMI cables is for the most part not really necessary, it is unlikely any Disks will be available for it except Games. Future Standards still may find a useful way to use more bandwidth so a bit of overkill on your cables, (plug for Elite Series!) is not the worst idea.
