What's an HTPC? It's a Home Theater PC (PC meaning Windows or Mac).
Pretty much the same as a Media center PC, although those are most closely associated with Windows Media Center PC's, but you could almost call any computer a Media PC if it fulfills the usual functions.
What functions does a HTPC/Media PC perform? Many, and various, depending on the needs of the user. While a HTPC should be a "Home Theater" Source device meaning higher end video and audio necessary for Home Theater, a Media PC or HTPC often needs Gaming, Picture viewing, Audio Library File serving and playing as well as Internet browsing.
