Firewire Cards for your PC or Mac (iLink/DV/1394)

Add Firewire connectivity to your PC or Mac with a Firewire (IEEE1394) Card.

You must use a Firewire hardware card to add firewire to a computer. Card types are PCI, or PCI Express for Desktops and PC Card or Express Cards for Laptop computers. You cannot convert firewire to USB, for example. Seriously! If you see a Firewire to USB cable on Amazon or Ebay it will NOT convert Firewire to USB. Apparantly some wacky manufacturers supposedly used the mini 4-pin firewire "i.link" connector for a USB connection on some devices, and that is what these cables are supposedly for. Don't waste your money!

There are three standard types of Firewire connections: 4-pin, 6-pin and 9-pin. That's it! (OK, technically there is the Cat5 type connection, but nobody uses the stupid thing) There are cables and adapters that easily convert between the three types.
