Nerd Facts:
RCA's and 75 ohms - While Some RCA connectors are marketed as "True 75 ohm RCA connectors" it is very debatable if an RCA plug can be, in reality, 75 ohms due to the physical spacing of the pin and outer shield contacts. In any case, the female RCA connector that it connects to is certainly not 75 ohms. Oh well. Without BNC 75 ohm connections, some slight reflections may be impossible to avoid.
Silver plating for video cables that operate at high frequencies is considered a good thing by many due to silvers better conductivity than copper. The real reason to use silver plating on high frequency cables is due to less negative interaction with certain coax insulation dielectrics. Silver plating with Teflon dielectrics being the best example.
Soldering - Maintaining 75 ohm characteristic impedance is mostly about maintaining diameter differences of center conductors and shields and the dielectric properties of the insulators between. A common overlooked diameter difference is within the connectors themselves. Big, chunky plates to solder the center conductor to, warp the characteristic impedance, as do big blobs of solder. Crimping is generally far superior in this regard since the crimped objects are generally cylinders that maintain the proper distances between center and shield.
