DVI Single Link and Dual Link Switchers for Video Workstations, High Resolution Security, AV Presentation, Home Theater, Medical and even KVM duty.
It may seem simple to switch all those digital 1's and 0's but with the high resolution video systems of today it is certainly not so easy a task as you might think. DVI at high resolutions requires Gigabytes of bandwidth and poor switch design can cause a myriad of distortions and problems that are not often an issue with switches working in the Megahertz analog realm.
The better Quality Switches will properly recondition the signal and boost it to help with long cable length situations.

What you need to decide:
Single Link or Dual Link - Single link Connections support resolutions up to 1920x1200, Dual Link Connections support resolutions up to 2560x1600. Look at the specifications for your display. There should be a spec called "native resolution" or something similar. If it is over 1920x1200, you need Dual link DVI, otherwise not. Of course your Source device must support Dual link as well, or you will not receive it. Be careful! Many Video cards will support higher resolutions over VGA or DVI-I (but only analog), and will only support 1920x1200 over DVI. It's a good idea to make sure both the source device and the display spell out for you the need or capability of Dual link.
HDCP Support - Satellite and Cable Boxes, DVD and Blu Ray Players and Many Displays have HDCP copy protection built-in. HDMI Sources pretty much all have HDCP. If any of your video source devices have HDCP then you are going to need an HDCP Compliant Switcher and Display. Any of them.
IR Remote - If you need the convenience of an IR remote, then make sure your DVI Switcher has one of these! Some additionally have the capability of RS232 control. If you don't know if you need this, you probably don't.
Matrix Switching - this is the capability to route one of four inputs, to any one of four outputs. The number of inputs and outputs can be larger or smaller than this. This is normally for A/V Editors, Military, high end surveillance or for Science type applications like medical Labs.
