Dear T;
I spoke with you in chat Tuesday afternoon about the Z500na interconnect. I have run many hours of listening on the CD player of my Sony blue ray player. I am using this as a CD player to share the hours with my Sony SACD player that I have been using as my main system.
I am running a NAD 50 watt integrated amp and some B&W 602 series 3 speakers. I also have a very good quality subwoofer. I mention all the equipment to show that I have the high end equipment to keep the signal path very clean and would allow me to hear the minute difference in the cables.
Well first off, I was pleasantly surprised in how the Z500na was so open and detailed on all the many classical CD's and some female vocalist that I listened to.
My first reaction was, Oh wow these sound just like my Audio Quest Diamondbacks that I use on the SACD player. I thought, how can this be, as I paid $52.50 for the 2 meter pair of Z500na from Ram Electronics. The current price of a 2 meter length of the Diamondbacks are in the mid $ 200 dollar range.
That alone was enough to make me feel that I had more than got my money's worth with these cables. Of course it was way better than what I had been using in with the Sony bd player for the CD playback I am using HDMI for the video and its sound.
I decided to go with one more test. I asked a close friend to bring down has copy of a cd that I have also, and then He and I could play the same recording in both players at the same time. The Sony SACD player is using the Audio Quest Diamondbacks.
I realized that there would be some slight difference between the player's electronics, but both being Sony made, that it would make that much difference. We did have to ride the volume control when switching between the two. The SACD player had a little more output. But you have to keep the volumes the same to do the critical listening.
Well here is the bottom line. I have always been highly impressed with the Audio Quest Diamondbacks cables, and have felt that they are the best ones in my system. I use other brands and configurations on my digital tuner and the TV and Blue ray video sound.
Today I am excited to announce that both my best friend and I agreed that the Z500na have bested the Audio Quest Diamondbacks. We found that the Z500na are much cleaner more open and more detailed on the instruments in the orchestra. They also have a much deeper depth of staging and placing of the instruments so as to hear them as individual items, not all run together.
Now the only thing that I have to offer as bonafides to give this review is nearly 50 years of listening to many hours of classical music on ever improving sound systems and having gone to multiple live performances of the Houston Symphony Orchestra. I have also gone to many live performances of all district and all region bands and orchestras that my son played in as either the first of second chair trombone.
My friend has even more qualifications as he has significantly higher priced equipment with his Macintosh amp and B&K sound decoder and $1000 dollar a piece speakers. He also has gone to may live performances with and without me. Not to mention he is a musician himself. I have also sang as a tenor in choirs for years.
Congratulations on a very well built product and an incredible good value.
