While it may seem that picking an HDMI Switch is as easy as choosing the number of inputs required and buying the least expensive switch available, things are never quite that simple with HDMI. HDMI is, unfortunately, a moving target. You should determine the type of HDMI support (HDMI 1, 1.2, 1.3, etc) your other products have, and which features of these versions of HDMI you really need.
For SACD, DVD-A and PCM (Player decoded) "Lossless" Audio formats you need HDMI 1.2. This PCM audio output setting is used for most HDTV with HDMI connections.

For Receiver Decoded (Bitstream) audio transmission of "Lossless" audio, and support of new "Deep Color"** or other optional* features of HDMI 1.3 you will need an HDMI 1.3 Source, Receiver, Display and Switching.
Better Quality HDMI Switchbox manufacturers offer more reliable products with higher levels of support and fewer compatibility issues. They can also often be updated to remove compatibility issues. Gefen switchboxes for example, are usually upgradeable.
