Frequently Asked Questions

Will the Kanex mLinq work with my older style Mac running a G3, G4, or G5 series processor?
No, our Kanex mLinq will only work if you’re Mac is running an Intel-based processor. The older style G3, G4, and G5 processors are not supported.

I have hooked everything up correctly but I am only getting a video signal and no sound! Have I missed any steps?
In order to get audio via the mLinq adapter, you will need to set up your sound output options; Open System Preferences, Sound, and select the output tab. From here you should be able to select the USB adapter for sound output.

Do I need to install the software/ driver before I connect it to my HDTV?
Yes, the mLinq requires a one time easy installation and after that, you are ready to plug and play.

If you already have a monitor running out of the mini-displayport, can you use this to run a third monitor? Does a Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard support this?
Yes you can use this as a third monitor option. It is tested to be supported with Mac Snow Leopard OSX

Can I have more than one mLinq connected to my 2011 Macbook Pro for a possible fourth display?
No,you can only have one plugged in to the Macbook pro since USB recognizes the Mlinq as one display per graphics card output, but you can surely plug your Apple Cinema Display using the mini Displayport on your Macbook pro.

This will work with the new iMac thunderbolt port to output video and sound to a tv correct.
Yes, this will in fact work with the new thunderbolt equipped iMac's however this does not use the thunderbolt port. This is a USB device.

I have the iMac 27 inch (late 2009 model) I want to hook up my XBOX 360 to this using this kinex mLinq. Will it work at 1080p with audio? Thanks
The mLinq is designed to output video/audio signals to an external display, not input video signals. For your situation, you will need the Kanex XD to connect your XBOX 360 to the iMac. Remember, the limitations of 720p is the iMac, not our product. The 27" iMac EDID only allows for 2 input resolutions (720p OR 2560x1440). If the EDID supported 1080p then you wouldn't have any issues running at 1080p, but since it does not support that resolution, you must set your source to output @ 720p. http://www.kanexlive.com/blog/support/

Yes, the mLinq works excellent with Mac OS X Lion; Please download the latest drivers from our specs tab

Is the audio output 2.0 or 5.1?
The Kanex mLinq provides 2ch. audio via the USB port.
